A cheap sorbent-adsorbent product is not a marketing slogan, but a technical reality for enterprises where every ruble of cleaning should work for results. We have more than once encountered situations where a customer brought wastewater samples to the laboratory after an accidental oil spill - and demanded a solution “today, without a budget for imported gels.” In such cases, a cheap sorbent-adsorbent product from the “economy class” category saved not only the balance, but also the liquidation time.
There is a persistent myth: low price = low capacity, poor selectivity, rapid depletion. In practice, this is only true for uncalibrated granules or non-certified mixtures. We tested three types of adsorbents based on activated clay, modified diatomaceous earth and composite carbon-silicate powder. All three were tested according to GOST R 57164-2016 (“Sorbents of petroleum products”) at a load of 30 g/l of oil. Result: 92–96% absorption in 8 minutes, residual content in water below 5 mg/l. The key point is the pore structure. We measured it on a BET analyzer: the specific surface area of our main product is 320 m²/g, the average pore diameter is 8.7 nm. Therefore, adsorption occurs quickly and regeneration is possible at a temperature of 180 °C without loss of >12% capacity after three cycles.
