Gaseous substances, like liquids, can be absorbed by solid materials. This process is called adsorption. Materials that perform this function are given the name gas adsorbents. Think of a sponge structure as a simplified representation of an adsorbent. It seems to absorb gases, just like a sponge absorbs water.
What is adsorption and how does it work?
